I'm a sort of semi-cynical, semi-hyperactive mercurial sort of thing. I'm tall with uncontrollable hair, and a left eyebrow that is often stuck in the "hmmmm.... really? right..." position.
Life has got to the point where I've become convinced I'm a young fogey. The evidence keeps mounting: can't stand mobile phones, chart music is dire, current fashions look dreadful. Hence this journal may well read like a voice in the wilderness or a message in a bottle, or what have you.
I don't really mind who friends me. If you're bored enough to read my drivel, it's your lookout. Bear in mind I rarely use LJ cuts and I write long entries. I rarely look at this page, so if you want me to notice that you've added me, you should mention it to me in a comment. I shan't necessarily return the favour, for two reasons: number 1, I like to feel I at least vaguely know people before I expose them to my friends-only ramblings; and number 2, I like my friends digest to be the journals of people I have things in common with, who are funny, or who write well, because I do take the time to read it. But mainly number 1, so I'll probably bookmark you and read you for a bit and maybe add you later on.

On the one hand it has advantages over a real diary: with that I would tend to wonder what the point was of writing what would never be read. Yet it's relatively easy to imagine that nobody is reading a word you write -- it's the equivalent of baring your soul to a deaf old aunt who after you've made a confession of unspeakable horror says 'that's nice dear, more tea?' -- me, on the subject of journalling.
And now I am stuck up here in the wuthering wilds for the forseable future. Where the grils my age are either tattooed, divorced or have three kids. Or optionally, all three.
